OCS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION TUSAOCSAA has a new life time member - our own 2nd Platoon’s Jack E. Easton. Jack joined the Association in January 2012. The life blood of any organization is membership and it is through organizations like the Alumni Association that what we did and how we did it is not lost to history. Welcome Jack! LOOK FOR IT IN 2014 Located at the terminus of I-185, the new main entrance to Fort Benning is open. The gate has 4 large white pillars topped with 4 large statues …two eagles, the Infantry’s “Follow Me” soldier and one of a cavalry rider (“The Plainsman”) since the Army Armor School is now located at Benning. Camp Benning was established in 1918, named in honor of Civil War Confederate Brigadier General Henry L. Benning who commanded a Georgia Brigade in General John Hood’s Division, and where the Army set up its School of Infantry Arms. The post was made permanent in 1922 and its name changed to Fort Benning. During WWII it hosted the 1st Infantry Division as well as the establishment of OCS and the airborne training center. In 1963 the 11th Air Assault Division (we remember those guys!) began forming to test the tactics, equipment, and theories associated with the “Air Assault” concept. Since the 1970’s the Fort has seen the further development of and/or formation of the Airborne School, the Ranger School, the 29th Infantry Regiment’s Bradley’s Fighting Vehicle Training Program and cutting edge technology in the post’s Battlelabs. Just outside the new gates stands the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center at Patriot Park. Open in 2009 the Museum includes thousands of unique artifacts relating to the Infantry’s role in shaping a new Nation. A must-see during our 50th Reunion at Fort Benning in 2014! YOUR ASSISTANCE NEED 5TH Platoon classmate Tom Siobocinski is asking for your assistance. Tom is a member of the Unitarian Universal Church of Clearwater, FL., located in the Tampa Bay area. Each year the church conducts an auction to benefit the church but they always pick a non-religious group to share the proceeds with. This year the church is considering reaching out to a Veteran’s group that works with warriors coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan. The group chosen will received money with no religious or political strings attached – they are just looking for a group that helps returning Vets and their families. The selected decides how it wants to use the money. The only requirement the church has is that the Vet organization has no religious or political ties. Tom asks that if any classmate knows of such a veteran’s organization, have them contact him ASAP at (777) 348-1184 or email tomsobocinski@msn.com . CHANGES Angelo Canale New Fones (Cell) (954) 5774 (H) (954) 596-0478 Paul Edson New Address 135 Dowling Drive, Otto, NC (828) 634-0036 Mail still goes to: Box 642, Otto, NC 28763 DO YOU REMEMBER The Gold Bar Club located in Wigle Hall? It was the Senior Candidate “Officer’s Club” but I cannot remember having time to use it! Do you remember the classroom in the basement of Wigle Hall? I do not remember having a lot of classes there but a few. And it was the place where we were sworn in as newly “minted” 2nd Lieutenants early in the morning on 17 April 1964. Do you remember the line of NCOs outside the door waiting to earn their dollar by given us a “first salute”? Do you remember the unfortunate student company commander in our Junior Candidate phase who ordered the company to “Fall out and assemble in WIGGILY HALL!” The last time I saw him he was in the front leaning rest position with 4-5 TACs chewing on him. Does anyone remember his name and if he graduated? But after that I never forgot how to pronounce Wigle Hall. I believe now Wigle Hall no longer holds the OCS Officer’s Club and I am not sure if the classroom is still there. I believe Wigle Hall is now the OCS Museum and the home of the OCS Hall of Fame. I hope we can arrange to make a visit to the OCS area, Desidero Barracks and Wigle Hall when we hold our 50th Reunion at Fort Benning in 2014. An Aside: Do you remember our visit to Desiderio Barracks during our first (36th) Reunion at Fort Benning in 1998? It was a CO-ED company and they used a buffer to polish their floors! A buffer! When we told them of our “stay” at OCS they found it hard to believe. You know something – so do I! LEST WE FORGET - TAPS. Candidates Charles D. Adams, Larry D. Allgood, David R. Barnett, D. Page Bazler, Joseph A. Binelli, Richard C. Cauzza, Edward W. Cavanaugh Jr., Ronald J. Chellman, David R. Devers, Jack L. Edwards, Jeffrey H. Ehrhart, Henry F. Franklin, Edwin M. Frazier, James A. Gardner, Joseph X. Grant, Anthony B. Hicks, Fred C. Hite, Jerry L. Isler, Charles H. Keller, George Lamonte, Eugene P. Loughran, Harry H. McWilliams II, Thomas M. Naylon, Gary W. Offineer, George B. Pearson III, Stuart J. Perkins, Jerald F. Pittenger, Alfred H. Roberts, Marion M. Robinson, Charles W. Rowell, Edwin R. Ruff, John F. Sanford, Clifford W. Schneeman Jr., Milton C. Sikes Jr., Paul E.
